Dr. Robert C. DiCaprio Jr.

Robert Carl DiCaprio Jr. is a lifelong area resident and has been practicing podiatric medicine and surgery in Schenectady and Fultonville for over 25 years. He graduated from Fordham University where he was a member of the football Rams all four years and went on to The New York College of Podiatric Medicine. He then completed a surgical residency in New York City Hospitals.

Dr. DiCaprio is a board certified foot surgeon. He is a fellow with the American Board of Podiatric Surgery, the American Board of Podiatric Medicine, the American Academy of Podiatric Sports Medicine, and the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons. Dr. DiCaprio has successfully treated many athletes in the Capital Region using his expertise in custom orthotic therapy.

Bob is an avid sports fan and some of his hobbies include golfing, gardening, fishing and other outdoor sports. He is married with four children and several pets.

Dr. Cailin Makar

Dr. Makar was born and raised in Niskayuna, New York. She attended Binghamton University, majoring in Cellular and Molecular Biology and obtained her Bachelor of Science Degree graduating with honors. She went on to attend the New York College of Podiatric Medicine and graduated Summa Cum Laude. For her post-doctoral training, she completed a 3 year residency in Podiatric Medicine and Surgery with an added credential in Reconstructive Rearfoot and Ankle Surgery at Montefiore Medical Center in Bronx, New York. Dr. Makar also served as the Chief Resident for the last year of her residency.

Dr. Makar is board certified by the American Board of Podiatric Medicine, and board qualified by the American Board of Foot and Ankle Surgery. She is an associate of the American Academy of Podiatric Sports Medicine and the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons.

She is fulfilling her dream of practicing in her hometown community as an associate at Mohawk Valley Podiatry. She is accepting new patients at both office locations.

Custom Orthotics

We offer specialized orthotics (custom shoe inserts) which have brought great relief to our patients over the past 25 years. Each and every orthotic is individually made to your cast and can be tailored to your lifestyle. Custom orthotics provide support and improve your biomechanics.

We use several types of materials ranging from fiberglass, thermocork, polyethylene, polypropylene, superglass, and a wide range of cushioned and protective devices. Our orthotics are made by taking a plaster cast of your feet to give us and the laboratory a three-dimensional image of your feet.

Diabetic Shoes

Almost any diabetes management plan involves a pair of specifically designed diabetic shoes with inserts to prevent ulcerations and other potential complications.

Diabetic shoes help to prevent calluses, promote blood circulation, provide advanced level of comfort as well as pain relief, and prevent skin breakdown.

Diabetic shoes have to meet strict Medicare guidelines, be prescribed by a professional, as well as fit by a certified podiatrist. The diabetic shoes must have removable heat moldable inserts or custom orthotics. The shoes and inserts become a system that helps diabetic patients avoid foot problems and improve quality of life.
